Oakland’s First Distillery Since Prohibition
First Released in 2017.
You may be shocked to learn that whiskey wasn’t always king in the United States. Back in colonial times our national drink of choice was Rum; either made in Barbados or where Barbadian Molasses shipped in for American Distillers to make. Rum was so important to the american lifestyle back then that they drank 3.7 gallons of rum per person a year. To put that into perspective, Americans today only drink 2.3 gal per person of all alcoholic beverages - beer and wine included. Rum was so beloved by colonial Americans that historians attribute heavy taxation and tariffs on Rum and Molasses to be one of the major causes of the Revolutionary War. It was also dolled out to American voters at the polls and soldiers on the front lines to maintain morale.
Unlike the rum in our revolutionary days, this is a bonafide All-American Rum. We use 100% Grade-A Black Strap Molasses from Georgia. Black strap molasses is the inkiest, most bitter of the sugar byproducts and adds a beautiful depth of character to our rum that is both buttery and floral. Giving you a true taste of what an artisanal American rum should taste like.
While most rum is made in a column still, our rum is distilled in our 250gal Vendome Copper Pot Still - the same Still we use to make all of our whiskies. This gives our white rum a fun funky earthiness.
Between the pure, unadulterated creamy floral notes and the savory finish from our pot distillation, our white rum is perfect for cocktails. It’s flavor and body provides a great balance to sweeter, more tropical flavors, particularly in rum punches or other traditional tiki concoctions.
